JThe day was misty with very low lying cloud. Eilian got up early and had breakfast ready for us all. We headed, all togged up, in our ski gear ready for the day up the mountain via the amazing gondola. It was amazing as low down we broke through the clouds and came upon a fantastic sunny day. Perfect ski conditions. (famous last words). We got the boys organised with their ski lessons and I watched them for a while as we were advised that it was very icy up top. At about 10 eilian and I headed up. The top was lovely nice snow conditions and nice steep slopes. This part was a lot easier without the kids. Eilian was loving his new board getting the feel for a new ride. Then we hit the ice. Admittedly there were big signs up ICE SLOW. Well when you spend most of your time on your arse and struggle to get up because it is so icy you can't get any purchase it is bloody slow going! Unfortunately there were a few nasty falls for me. The main concern was my shoulder. It had taken me ages to get it right after a sub deltoid bursitis last year and when you fall your natural reaction is to put you arms out to stop your fall. thus I stuffed my shoulder and was in pain. Unfortunately you need this to push yourself up off the ground so it was not happy going for me. Eilian was very patient and waited and waited and waited! That man is a saint. I must say I did provide lots of entertainment for him with my wide variety of falls. I had a multitude of amazing angles forwards and backwards, including my personal best which is catching an edge on the flat flicking backwards and landing on my head). I have found that the helmet helps a successful landing and hopefully the neck is only slightly put out! I finished this one and only run of the day (admittedly it is about 5 or 6 km long) by coming beautifully off the chair lift with great style and grace only to fail to stop and take out 2 kids who had just finished their lesson ( i was disappointed she only got two out of a possible 50 she never was any good at ten pin). Fortunately they were fine and they ignored me while I struggled to get myself untangled and my boot out of the bindings from a very difficult angle. Thus I have retired from the sport of snowboarding.
The mist below the slopes
On a better note the boys had a very successful first morning of lessons. Luke had already moved up a group and was now at Cody's level, although in a different age group from him. The instructors seemed lovely and the boys loved it. They had spent time on the baby slopes and had quickly progressed to the top of the mountain. They did come down a different way which was easier but still covered some red and mainly blue runs. (green is beginner, blue, red, black - advanced).
Luke traversing
Luke went off with eilian to ski the rest of the day away, while cody and I went home with me hobbling and aching. We spent lots of time in the pool, spa, sauna & steam room. Darryl you would be in heaven!!
We searched for somewhere new for Dinner and found a lovely place that was fully booked so booked for tomorrow night. We then returned to the same place as the night before. I had a lovely salmon crepe. YUM.
Anna, I think skiing may be the way forward!
